Kirk Maynard is an artist originally from Brooklyn, New York. A second-generation Guyanese-American, his paintings and drawings examine the intersections of race, identity, and politics in American life. Working primarily through the figure, Maynard draws upon American social history to explore how Black identity is constructed, perceived, and negotiated within the public sphere.

Maynard has presented his work and research at institutions including Princeton University, New Museum, and Queens College. His work has been exhibited at museums and galleries across the United States, including The Newark Museum of Art, Montclair Art Museum, Springfield Museum of Art, and Evansville Museum. He has received fellowships and residencies from the Vermont Studio Center, MASS MoCA, the Golden Foundation, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
