Dream Deferred Series
Dream Deferred examines the diminishing promise of the American Dream in the twenty-first century, particularly for immigrants who arrive in the United States in pursuit of greater opportunity. Drawing from American ideals of liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the series considers the growing distance between these ideals and lived experience. Inspired by Langston Hughes’s poem “Harlem,” the work explores the deferred promise of upward mobility and a declining belief in American exceptionalism.
